indieBRAG Awards Born at Dawn a 2021 B.R.A.G. Medallion

The Olympics aren’t until later this summer, but Christina Davis’s debut young adult fantasy novel BORN AT DAWN is already sporting gold after it was selected as a 2021 B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree in early June. Books that win a B.R.A.G. Medallion can be identified by the gold seal on the cover and are listed on the award’s website.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled,” says Davis. “When I entered the contest, I never expected to win. I’m grateful to indieBRAG for even considering Born at Dawn and for doing so much to elevate independent authors.”

B.R.A.G. Medallions are awarded by indieBRAG, LLC, which works to “discover talented self-published authors and help them give their work the attention and recognition it deserves.” The contest is open to self-published ebooks and is rated as reputable by the Alliance of Independent Authors.

The selection process includes rigorous screening and a report by an impartial judge. BORN AT DAWN scored top marks in all categories, including title, cover, plot, characters, dialogue, writing style, chapters, copy editing, content, and formatting.

BORN AT DAWN is the story of a morally gray teen thief who embarks on a journey of self-acceptance. She uncovers secrets and betrayals, and learns about her mother’s people, who are a fierce race of supernatural warriors called Da’Valia. The YA epic fantasy is the first book in The Da’Valia Trilogy, and it has been lauded by reviewers for its rich world-building and character development.

Davis lives in Monterey County with her husband and daughter. She is an alumna of San Jose State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications and NYU’s School of Professional Studies Summer Publishing Institute.
